Common questions about Anxiety & Depression therapy:

  • Both anxiety and depression have separate criteria for diagnosis. However, we know that women are twice as likely to have anxiety or depression as men, and often anxiety and depression are co-occurring. Nearly half of those with major depression also suffer from severe and persistent anxiety. People who are depressed often feel anxious and worried. One can easily trigger the other, with anxiety often preceding depression. The bottom line: I’ll provide a thorough assessment to understand an accurate diagnosis and treat it accordingly, including assessments to understand levels of improvement.

  • The best thing is for us to have a conversation. I offer all new clients a free 15-minute consultation to allow you to ask the questions that are important to you. If you don’t feel like I’m a good fit, we can explore what’s missing, and I can provide a few recommendations based on your specific needs for you to consider because getting the help you need is the most important thing.

  • We will meet weekly for roughly 50 minutes. Our first few sessions focus on getting to know one another, understanding the challenges you’re facing, and making sure you feel comfortable. From there, we will develop a treatment plan that focuses on your goals and how we will reach them (talk therapies, EMDR, or Brainspotting). This will serve as our roadmap for your therapy but will remain flexible based on what’s happening for you.

  • According to the EMDR Research Foundation, more than 30 gold-standard studies have documented EMDR’s effectiveness over the last three decades. Though therapists previously used EMDR only for PTSD and trauma-related disorders, they now also use it to treat many other problems, including anxiety and depression. EMDR offers hope to people who have been struggling with fears and uncomfortable symptoms where coping skills and talk therapy haven't provided lasting relief.
